Screeds & Rendering

Screeds and renders are, in simple terms, speciality forms of mortar. These are both types of cement that can see use in tiling jobs, along with some renovations. However, both screen and rendering are often only used for specialised purposes.

The two have traditional uses in construction and contractor work.

When you have a floor that’s not less than an inch and a half, you need screed. The material is made of sharp sand and cement and is used to finish off the job.The screed is usually left to bond with the floor, and its primary purpose is to provide a level surface.

Render, on the other hand, sees similar use on walls. In traditional use, it’s applied to create a surface that protects the base wall. It has to be thick enough to take punishment, but too thick and it will crack and fall off.

However, things are changing. To have the smoothest possible surface for a wall, you need to screed the wall. After that, the wall needs rendering. This applies in particular if the walls are made of a mix of sand and concrete.

Using screed mixed with rendering also creates a smoother finish, without any tiny pores. The overall look is more pleasing, even for a bare wall.

Screeds and rendering are good choices for smooth walls. A&S can perform these services as part of a renovation or tiling job, or separately. We recommend the process before applying tiles since it makes the job smoother if the surface is the same.

A&S professionals will provide a quality service, selecting the right types of cement and mixes.

Not all screeds and renders use the same combinations, with some mixes being better for some purposes. Our team knows the nuances of this process and can determine what would work best for your home.
